MUIR'S STICKEEN
©Gary Bowman It seems like only yesterday, Though many years ago We braved Alaskan glacier, As gale winds did blow This greatest of adventures, Yeah, my wildest ride And there, was Stickeen by my side Stickeen was a friend of mine, Mother nature’s child Eyes as old as distant hills as young, and, as wild A more fearless, truer, braver dog, I have never seen That worthless, shaggy, wonder mutt, My Hero, My Stickeen His legs were short, his body bunched, With long, and ruffled hair He seemed a helpless creature, Or, so it would appear Yet he crosses crystal sea, In cold, and blinding snow The glacier is a-calling us, Together, we will go Stickeen was a friend of mine, Mother nature’s child Eyes as old as distant hills, as young, and as wild A more fearless, truer, braver dog, I have never seen That worthless, shaggy, wonder mutt, My Hero, My Stickeen Now the dreaded, blinding snow, Is flying thick and fast Before us lies, to our chagrin, A deadly, steep crevasse Stickeen shows no trace of fear at this chasm wide Now, he’s flying through the air , And to the other side Stickeen was a friend of mine, Mother nature’s child Eyes as old as distant hills, as young, and as wild A more fearless, truer, braver dog, I have never seen That worthless, shaggy, wonder mutt, My Hero, My Stickeen That worthless, shaggy, wonder mutt, I love ya, My Stickeen |
