“Gary Bowman’s Song of Wind and Weather"
Multi-Media Show
(Michael Sparks)

“The Great Cyclone of 1896”
YouTube Premiere: February 1st, 2026

On Wednesday, May 27th, 1896, a devastating tornado/downburst complex struck St. Louis and East St. Louis, creating widespread destruction. Said to be one of the deadliest tornadoes in U.S. history, over 137 people died as a result of the storm. “It jumped the Mississippi, and headed to the East!"  NOAA Volunteer Michael Sparks created the slide show, and posted the video on NOAA Weather Radio - Weather Ready Nation
“Devil Wind in Paradise”
YouTube Premiere: February 2nd, 2026

The deadly Camp Fire was ignited by a faulty power line on November 8, 2018, and, driven by a strong east wind, destroyed the Northern California foothill town of Paradise. "From the ashes, Resurrection; Like the Phoenix, we will arise!" NOAA Volunteer Michael Sparks created the slide show, and posted the video on NOAA Weather Radio - Weather Ready Nation.
 “Galveston Waltz”
YouTube Premiere: February 3rd, 2026

The Galveston Flood is often regarded as the greatest natural disaster to ever strike the United States. On September the 8th, 1900, a great storm surge from a hurricane over the Gulf of Mexico destroyed the town of Galveston, Texas, resulting in over 8,000 deaths. NOAA Volunteer Michael Sparks created the slide show, and posted the video on NOAA Weather Radio - Weather Ready Nation.
“Dust Bowl Swing”
YouTube Premiere: February 4th, 2026

The Dust Bowl dominated the 1930s, resulting in loss of people, livestock and farmlands throughout the drought-stricken Southern Plains. This song is about the perseverance and hope. “Storms may come, storms may go, Winds may blow, This I know…Together, we’ll get through.” NOAA Volunteer Michael Sparks created the slide show, and posted the video on NOAA Weather Radio - Weather Ready Nation.
 Time and the Flying Snow”
YouTube Premiere: February 5th, 2026

The Donner Party struck out from Missouri in the spring of 1846, bound for California. An early, heavy snowfall trapped the pioneers, high in the Sierra Nevada mountain range. “Rain in the valley, But here on the mountain, Trapped in a prison of snow.” NOAA Volunteer Michael Sparks created the slide show, and posted the video on NOAA Weather Radio - Weather Ready Nation.
“The Great Extraterrestrial Cretaceous-Tertiary Extinction Event”
YouTube Premiere: February 6th, 2026

The Cretaceous-Tertiary extinction event (aka ‘K-T extinction event’) was a large-scale mass extinction of animal and plant species. Scientists theorize the K-T extinctions were triggered by asteroid impacts and volcanic eruptions. “That’s pretty much to everybody’s detriment!” NOAA Volunteer Michael Sparks created the slide show, and posted the video on NOAA Weather Radio - Weather Ready Nation.
