CATCH OF THE DAY
©Gary Bowman When just a lad, I longed to be, A fisherman upon the Sea To sail out upon the Bay, Bringin’ home, Catch of the Day One for you, One for me, Toss the rest, Back to the Sea May our children all be free, And live a life upon the Sea Longlines, from shore to shore Trawlers, that scrape the floor Fishin’, Till there ain’t no more (sad day) Bless all those, That brave the Sea, To provide for you and me I’m the man, That sails the Bay, Bringin’ home, Catch of the Day One for you, One for me, Toss the rest, Back to the Sea May our children all be free, And live a life upon the Sea Hotels, with beachfront rooms, Sewer pipes, and algae blooms Will oceans become lifeless tombs (someday) Now, I’m old, my work is done, I live on land, the fishing’s gone The children grow and carry on, They dream of boats, and sing this song One for you, One for me, Toss the rest, Back to the Sea May our children all be free, And live a life upon the Sea A flicker of hope survives, In darkness, a candle thrives Wistful dreams, Sustain our lives (today) When just a lad, I longed to be, A fisherman upon the Sea… |
