SAND COUNTY SHUFFLE
©Gary Bowman Got a little shack in Wis-con-sin, A weekend retreat for family and friends Welcome to our Sand County Community Eighty acres in our backyard, The livin’ is easy, and the work is hard All the world, In har-mo-ny When the days get short, the evenings cold, Toss a log on the fire in the old wood stove, Catch a rabbit or two, For the evening meal The County Recorder, Sees a commodity Can’t see the forest, For the trees. It’s a land we respect and love, The soil, the water and the sky up above It’s a symbiotic community We love our flora, and our fauna, too, Doot-dootle-doot-doot, dootle-lee-doo All the world In har-mo-ny Every tree is a history book, Ya gotta make the time to take a look Every ring tells a story, Of our land The County Recorder, Sees a commodity Can’t see the forest, For the trees. Sittin’ on the porch on a summer’s night, Look to the sky, as the geese take flight A performance, It’s better than T.V. (A performance better than T.V.) Pave the roads, mechanize the farm, See the progress, consider the harm, At the cost, Of all things, Wild and free Just think of man and the land, Living in a state of harmony And the birds and the bees, Sing in nature’s symphony The County Recorder, Sees a commodity Can’t see the forest, For the trees. The County Recorder, He just can’t see Can’t see the forest, Can’t see the forest, Can’t see the forest... For the trees |
