STEAMBOAT COMIN' (Hey, Mark Twain!)
©Gary Bowman

When I was a little bitty boy, Sittin’ on my daddy’s knee
Watchin’ all the Riverboats, Steaming down the Mississippi
I don’t want to be a pirate, No, I don’t want to be a clown
Just wanna be a Steamboatman, Cruisin’ on the river, as the sun goes down

She’s long and sharp and handsome, She’s loved by one and all
Black smoke belchin’ from her double stacks, Listen to the leadsman as he calls
Steamboat Comin! Half Twain! Comin’ to town - Quarter Twain!
Gather round, good people, Steamboat Comin! Hey, Mark Twain!

Standing at the wheel in the Pilot House, All the live-long day
Blow the whistle, for the river boats, That ya meet along the way
Singin’, Smokin’, Spinnin’ yarns, Yeah, I’m living the dream
Big wheels turning in the paddlebox, Cruisin’ Big Muddy on a Riverboat Queen

She’s long and sharp and handsome, She’s loved by one and all
Black smoke belchin’ from her double stacks, Listen to the leadsman as he calls
Steamboat Comin! Half Twain! Comin’ to town - Quarter Twain!
Gather round, good people, Steamboat Comin! Hey, Mark Twain!

Steamin’ up from – St. – Lou -- is, Rollin’ down from – Ke – O -- Kuk
River’s full up – To – the – Banks, And, she’s steering - Like – a -- duck
Just wanna be a Riverboat pilot, Steamin’ down the Mississippi
Answer to no man’s back and call, Living Independent and free

She’s long and sharp and handsome, She’s loved by one and all
Black smoke belchin’ from her double stacks, Listen to the leadsman as he calls
Steamboat Comin! Half Twain!   Comin’ to town - Quarter Twain!
Gather round, good peope, Steamboat Comin! Hey, Mark Twain!
