SUN GONNA SHINE
©Gary Bowman Lazin’ at the river, Where the waters flow, Sittin’ on the Banks of the O-hi-O Reflections on the water, Reflections in my mind, Driftin’ with my baby, Down that river of time A two-room shack, that we called home, So many years before And the river ran past our back door A storm rolled into our small town, The sky got dark, the rains came down For forty nights, and forty days, Then the river swept our home away Yes, the rain’s gonna fall, on us all, The rich and the poor Just pray, the river stops at your back door Every river’s got a story to tell, Of what’s gone before Sun Gonna Shine in My Back Door Do you remember, back in sixty-three? Our Nation mired in pain Some were bound to duty, Others bound in chains This river carried some to freedom, And carried some to war Just wait… Sun Gonna Shine in My Back Door The times have a-changed, and re-arranged, This river and its shore Through drought and flood, and silt and mud, Things ain’t what they was before This river keeps on flowing, It don’t keep score Sun Gonna Shine in My Back Door Lazin’ at the river, Just takin’ it slow, Sittin’ on the Banks of the O-hi-O |
